  1. Because you're right: its considered a girl's sport! My advice: join a club team.  Look up the teams like this: *your state*volleyball association. this should give you some info. Good luck!

  2. In Houston there are 3 private high schools and 3 public high schools with volleyball for boys.  The boys programs have unusual status here.  They seem to be more than a club, but not really a varsity.  They often play after the girls, but do not have the same funding.

I would start talking with the coaches from the girls teams.  Tell them that you want to play.  You will not be able to do it without their support.  They have control of the equipment.  If they will help you, see if you have friends that want to play as well.  Put flyers up around school.

Good luck.  You are correct.  People do think of volleyball as a sport that only girls play.  That is because more girls play volleyball than any other sport.  In the Lone Star region of USAV, women outnumber men by a 2 to 1 margin, but girls outnumber boys by a 60 to 1 margin.  That means of our roughly 10,000 members, we around 1000 male members.  Do not read it that I think it is only for girls and women.  I used to play.

  3. my school actually does have a boys volleyball team.  I guess it started about 4 years ago and the team is doing pretty well now.  On LI, NY a lot of schools here have a boys team.  Maybe try to talk to your athletic director or try to gather the interests of your classmates to see if you have enough interest to start a team.

  4. well talk to the athletic director then...

i've always wondered why not all schools have a guys volleyball team... probably because not a lot of guys are interested (i doubt it lol i have a lot of samoans at my school), they cant find enough coaches for it, or simply because no one has really mentioned to them if they wanted to have a boy's team.

  5. they have a girls volleyball team and not a guys because guys have football to deal with. most of the time guys are likely to go out for football and there wouldnt be enough people to contribute to a boys team. its not sexual discrimination or anything, its just a fact that the majority of male athletes in high school would rather go out for football than volleyball.

  6. I live in Northern California and I our high schools have boys volleyball, as does Southern California.  The sport is finally getting the recognition it deserves as a boys game.  Both of my sons play and have played for their whole high school career.

There's also club volleyball.  Perhaps you can check the internet to find a club volleyball league where you live.  I think it's sad that schools don't offer it.  Check with your athletic advisor and find out about the league that are out there for other sports and perhaps you and other like you can petition to begin boys volleyball.  If there are enough people interested, it may happen.

I love boys volleyball!  It has just as much excitement as girls, without the teeny tiny spandex shorts.

    Hope this is useful!

  7. The main problem is not the fact that your school doesn't have a VB team for boys. You could start one. Most of the boys are playing football, basketball or baseball. The main problem is who are you going to play?

  8. I am a coach for girls volleyball, and our school does not offer volleyball for boys.  The reason for this is because the Tittle 9 laws, that the schools have to follow in regards to sports is that for every Boys sports there has to be a girls sport.  So if your school adopted boys volleyball, they would need to have another girls sport, and maybe they don't have enough interest for another girls sport, or they would need to drop a boys sport, and I doubt that would happen.  If you really want boys volleyball, my suggestion is that you talk to the athletic director and see if he/she would pole the students to see what interest there is for the different sports and maybe there would be enough for boys volleyball and maybe there would be a girls sport that could be adopted too.  Good luck!

  9. mine has boy and grls teams

  10. try to see if a local high school that has a team would allow you to join their team. i beleive you have their schools athletic directors permission and yours. ask your AD about that kind of thing.

as for why your school doesnt have it-becuase not enough people have ever gotten to gether and said to the administration you want to start a team; also avaliblilty for practice area and coaching and buying equipment/uniforms can be a part of it.

  11. i know it is dumb when people say its a girl sport because the AVP is pro men also and guys cant show they rock at volleyball too from club experiences. Maybe talk to ur district or school how u think its gender discrimination??

  12. yea that is retarded... my school has one and they are really good.  tall and really strong! it is such a good sport- i think you should email the athletic director at your school and talk to him about a team
