worked fine last night, had gone to dinner and when returning i came to notice that all three of my bathrooms, the lights and fans dont work. The power outlets all work fine, nothing is tripped at the panel, and all the gfi's are all working correctly. Why would this just start, house is less than 5 years old.

  1. There should not be anything supplied from that breaker, except the bathroom in question. If the GFCI breaker did not trip, and you do not have a GFCI device protecting the bathroom, get a qualified, licensed electrical contractor to take a look at the problem.

The NEC allows all bathroom receptacles to be supplied from on single 20 Amp circuit. It also allows individual bathrooms to be supplied by separate 20 Amp circuits, as long as the f**t fan & any other utilization devices do not require more than 10 Amps, combined. All must be wired with #12 AWG copper wiring.

You may also have a problem with a GFCI that is not showing. A recent study by Underwriters Laboratories, the National Pire Protection Association, and the International Association of Electrical Inspectors found that over 80% of all installed GFCIs did not function properly; with no outward signs that they were damaged or otherwise malfunctioning.

Did I just read that you have three ADDITIONAL circuits supplied from this breaker? As in, separate ungrounded conductors all running from the s***w terminal of the breaker to different locations?

That is another problem (AND, a major Code Violation, as well as a violation of the product listing for any panel or breaker manufacturer that I know of). Have that corrected right away, also!

  2. Do you have a reset button on one of the outlets in the bathroom.  If so try pressing test and reset.

  3. sounds like you covered all the bases. I would suggest checking to make sure you didn't miss a gfi somewhere-not to belittle you-but I have done it myself. best of luck. maybe there's a gfi built into one of the fixtures?

  4. If none of the breakers have tripped...it could be a loose wire on the breaker. I had one that must not have been tight...and the lights went out. I checked the breakers and none were off or tripped...so I thought it might have been the breaker was bad. When I got ready to pull out the breaker the wire popped out. I stuck it back in and tightened it down...turned it on and all worked fine.

If that is not the case...you may have a bad breaker. Check it with volt meter to see if any power is going through it. If you want...you can change the wires around from one breaker to the other as long as they are rated the same amps...and it's easy to do without moving a lot of wires.

  5. I stared you that's a good one, I would go back to the panel and trip each breaker and reset it I'll check back to check on your progress. I hope anyone else who responds reads it carefully.
