  1. bc their not comfottable

  2. Public is the word to key in on, older people are scared of lots of things as they grow older elders focus on not wanting to die, weird but its a study and a fact, also body issues and energy of climbing and swimming.

  3. sumtimes they r emmbarresed but also they always try 2 b really careful 4 sum reason

  4. They are probably just embarassed.  But I do see older people swimming all the time.  My Mom is 61 and she has a pool that she swims in.  There are also lots of old people who swim laps at my gym.

  5. It's really not so weird.  Depending on their age, there could be several reasons.  They may not care for it anymore.  They may not have the strength it takes to maneuver through the water.  Maybe there are to many inconsiderate youngsters splashing around.  And then again, maybe they're self conscience about their aging bodies.  So the next time you see elderly people sitting around a pool, just smile and say "Hello."  Then go and have some fun.

  6. Just a thought,, but maybe it has to do with the way society in general treats older adults, e.g, Don't get wrinkles, don't get fat, don't get Old! American culture has a way of making older adults feel very bad about themselves.

  7. Some of us do; not everyone over 50 is decrepit and in need

of a wheelchair and cane.  I work at Boy Scout summer camp

and at age 58 helped teach the BSA Lifeguard course and

still keep my skills current.  The current aquatics director at

camp is one month older than I am and is a very competent

swim and canoeing instructor - I've taken courses from him.

At age 52 I completed the BSA Mile Swim; that was several

years ago.  Also, my wife and I go to resorts in Mexico where

I visit the beach and swim (not just wade) in the surf and go

snorkeling every day.   I have no fear of water or swimming in

public and have been a very good swimmer for many years.

Please don't stereotype older people this way - the best

answer I can give to your question is that lots of us do swim

(and swim well) in many public places.  Look around!
