When i get on a train i will sit near the window so that a another person can sit down if need be. I cant understand when people sit in the aisle seat and put their bag on the windows seat and then dont move for people as they get on. OK people should ask if people mind moving over but those sitting seem to take pride in pretending they dont notice there is a spare seat or someone waiting to sit down! Really Weird and a bit infuriating! Does this happen to you or are you one of the people that wont move? Well if you are a seat squatter blathering well move your ****!!!!

  1. Personally i think that all the answers so far are true, it is down to personal space, but i think thats bred into this country, its also a matter of respect, if you travel to other places in the world things are different, take Japan for instance, a very respectful culture where people go out there way to help others as that is the way they are brought up.

Personnaly if it was the last seat i would just say to the person 'excuse me, is anyone siting there?'  Thats the best way of upsetting your seat squatters. Some people just like the ailse seats, some people are childish and like to play little games to get the two seats they really want...maybe its a power thing, pathetic power thing but maybe it is..

  2. This is the main drawback of public mass transportation:  the public, and the masses.

Lack of common courtesy will not succumb to engineering or additonal seating.  It is not a transportation problem, but rather a people problem.

Sorry.  I wish it were otherwise.......................

  3. I agree. I have had to stand on a long journey because no one would move even though their bags had a seat to themselves. I'm sure they would have moved them if I had asked but surely that's not the point. It is just ignorance.

  4. Yeah , i think there should be more spare seat's cos then there'd be more seats for people to sit on when the seats are full, but when the spare seats are full you'd need more spare seats for the people who have'nt got seats to sit on , err somebody shoot me !

  5. oh yes the age old adage of the train seat squatters, either sprawled out with their P.c's because their lives are so important or so that the impression they like to give, then there are the Bag squatters because their new designer bags cannot possibly be left on the floor, doesn't matter that some poor person has to stand for 4 hours.....well that's when my fun starts, cause i am that man who works aboard the trains and takes great delight getting people to move their fat arses outta the unoccupied seat or move their designer handbags or they can pay half the single fare for it to stay there, amazing how fast they like it to sit on their knees.

i know some people may feel a bit uneasy with people sitting beside them they don't know, but my advice is bury your head in a paper, book or invest in a earplugs

  6. It might sound like I'm a boring old f**t but it's all down to lack of respect for others and oneself.

It's a typical response of the me me me generation and I DON'T just mean youngsters.

People pay horrendous fares to travel particularly on Virgin trains to London and they don't expect to have to stand because some selfish lout wants to occupy two seats for the price of one.

You don't get much help from the train managers in these circumstances 'cos if it's so full they keep out of the way for fear of complaints!

    End of Rant!

  7. I think this is due to the fact that unlike alot of the European and Asian countries people in the uk like to have more personal space, people are not as confident to be sitting close or shareing that space with a stranger, even when your on public transport.

  8. Depends on the train. On the Wessex Maroon stuff I will hog two seats as there isn't the leg room in some seats so I sit sideways, but the Silver Alphaline ones have enough leg room :)
