Question:

Why dont republicans support g*y marriage?

I was always taught that republicans want a less intrusive government and more individual rights. How is trying to pass a federal law against g*y marriage showing they want a less intrusive government and more individual rights?

I keep hearing this line 'it ruins the sanctity of marriage", but how? If you are allowed to leave a marriage for any reason, doesnt that "ruin the sanctity of marriage"?

Considering the population of g**s in the united states, and the percent of marriages that end in divorce, it seems like going after divorce makes far more sense.

  1. if they put g**s on equal par to themselves then when they go out ******* around with interns, pages and mens' roomj pick-ups, they can't justify their behavior as NOT cheating on their beards....er, I mean wives.

  2. I don't know.  I think it's more a Bible thing.  Something about a man and a man being an abomination.  Silly but there you have it.

It always reminds me of when Bill Maher said, "Weren't Republicans the party of privacy, when did they become the Taliban?"

  3. Rockefeller Republicans support g*y marriage. However, in the 1964 RNC they booed Nelson Rockefeller off the stage and moved to ultra right wing extremism with Hoover's protege, the man who ultimately mentored Regan and today's extremists.

  4. AIDS

  5. More laws is a more intrisive government. I am bisexual and see no reason for g*y marraige. Commitment does not need a marraige. Marraige for g**s is strictly about getting insurance and benefits. When I commit myself to another woman or man for good, a marraige will not be the factor that makes or breaks the union. The left is trying to undermine religion.

  6. It is wrong.plain and simple.

  7. I don't understand why this is a national issue, I think it should be a state issue.

  8. The simple explanation is that the religious right now controls that party; and, they only favor less government and more individual rights when it suits their purposes.

  9. B/c STILL as of right now, we are one nation under GOD!

  10. I do not support g*y marriage because I believe that marriage is supposed to be between a man an a women. God created Adam and Eve for a reason.

  11. Actually, if you know the Democratic candidate at all, you also know that, in fact, he does not advocate g*y marriage, but rather a "civil commitment".  He in fact stated he did not think it should be called "marriage".

Here is what both men said, during a debate:

The men's comments came at a two-hour forum on faith hosted by the minister Rick Warren at his megachurch in Orange County, Calif. Obama joined Warren for the first hour, and McCain for the second. The two candidates briefly shook hands and hugged each other during the switch.

Warren asked both men the same questions. McCain said he did not see or hear Obama's session, which might have given him an advantage.

Both men said marriage is a union between a man and a woman. Obama added that he supports civil unions for g*y partners, which would give them rights such as hospital visits with one another. He said he opposed a constitutional ban on g*y marriage, calling the matter a state issue.

McCain's answer was less clear. If a federal court ordered his state, Arizona, to honor g*y marriages allowed in Massachusetts, he said, "then I would favor a constitutional amendment. Until then, I believe the states should make the decisions within their own states."

Although the reporter of this article found McCain's answer "less clear", it seems pretty clear to me.

  12. It's only a wedge issue that is used to appeal to the ignorant.  Republicans really don't hate g**s, as evidence by the large number of them being caught in public bathrooms engaging in solicitation.

  13. My personal objection is that I don't believe we should give people special treatment and extra rights because they made a "lifestyle" choice.

  14. christians and repugs think that g*y marriage is sinful...but that g*y s*x is fabulous!

  15. Check a Bible; God invented the idea of marriage in Genesis and he defined it to be between a man and a woman. g*y people are free to be as g*y as they want and they can still enter in to contracts.

  16. To much temptation for them.

  17. The fiscal Republicans need the votes of the Fundijelicals to maintain power. So they toss them a bone every now and then, and claim to be against a woman's right to choose or g*y marriage. This keeps the religious zealots happy and voting republican, while the real republicans can keep making policies to make rich people richer.

  18. most republicans are christians

  19. Most don't, some do.  Some Democrats don't support it either.

  20. i believe that it is called morality and ones belief in GOD and has no bearing on politics.  politics only enters into the equation in order to protect morality and to keep the liberals from removing GOD from all things   mr  doodles

  21. Neo-Cons like McCain and Bush are against it.  A Neo-Con believes in social conservatism (God, anti-g*y, anti-choice and all that).

Fiscal Conservatives, like me, don't crossover God with Fiscal responsibility.  I'm in favor of choice and g*y marriage, but am also a Republican because they're the only party that stands a chance of going back to small government and fiscal responsibility.

  22. Most of you people make me sick. They are humans with feelings and rights!  Not everyone is a Christian in this country. How can you say what's right based on the Bible?  And anyway, who are you to judge people? Doesn't that go against your beliefs? Hypocrites.

  23. This actually creates a conflict within two main aspects of Republicanism.  First, that the government that governs least governs best and second family values.

Traditional Family values was one of the big themes of the Bush/Qualye campaign.  That is why people are asking question about Pallin's unwed pregnant daughter.  The g*y/L*****n agenda does not fit into the traditional Family Values theme.

The idea of less Government in your personal life telling you how to live is a fundamental value of Republicanism.  Less Government = Less government intrusion.  g*y/Lesbians totally relate to this idea, the party rejects them though because they are in conflict with the family values part.

There is a group called the Log Cabin Republicans that are g*y/L*****n conservatives.

  24. OK so your saying that g**s won't get divorced as much as straights.....can you back that up with facts........personally I am against it because it just isn't natural.......I am Independent

  25. republicans claim to be 'christian'... yet judge people every chance they get!!

  26. I'm a republican, and I completely support g*y marriage. :P

I feel that g*y marriage is a pathetic non-issue within our party, personally, that only appeals to over-zealous christians.

It's funny how such a big deal is made over *what* someone calls something. The g**s say, "We don't want it to be called a civil union! We want it to be called a marriage!", while the opposors of it say, "We don't mind them having the same rights, we just don't want 'em calling it marriage!"

I say, go ahead and use the term. It's not like any particular religion has a copyright on it, or anything.

If you wanna call two men or two women forming a life-partnership a "marriage", go ahead. It's your constitutional right to freedom of religion and freedom of speech, as far as I'm concerned.
