I have seen child support go for a lot of things that have no barring on the welfare of the family.some of which was even used for unethical behavior.Which even if some one knew would be imposable to prove.

  1. The government or whoever deals with this stuff is all for the mum. My bf pays child support and none of it goes to his son, he's tried to ask if he can buy them food vouchers instead but he cant, the usually eat baked beans or something similar and his mum always has a new haircut or bag or shoes.

  2. Child support is used for the present cost/ needs of raising the child. It might be to insure having a home (large enough to have room for the child), the cost of utilities, food, etc.  It also includes things such as the child being able to go to camp, have school photos, or other things.

The reality for MOST single mothers is that they have less earning capacity, and for many.. without child support, they would be on verge of not having basic necessities of life. A single working mother also has to pay for child care.

In short.. it is to provide for the PRESENT needs of the child. Is it misused by some? Sure.  The number one problem I often see here, is that the child is totally oblivious to how much it really costs to provide for a child.. and expects that the money is more like an allowance, which should go to the child.  Or.. some think that it is an allowance to the mother, that she give an accounting back to the dad, for his "approval'.   Courts have ruled against this (with good reasons).
