where i am from, we had to learn how to drive before we get a license, we had to practice on the road and learn the laws of the road and feel and look confident before we can even take the test. once you get ur permit, you have to drive for 4 months before you can get ur license. i hated it when i was there and wanted one but i see that it makes driving in that state safe, no road rage, no 5-10 accidents a week and hit and runs.

i notice here, people fight for space, they cut u off, they cuss you out and since i have been here i have been turned into this nasty person on the road, just so i dont get ran off the road. people dont know how to follow the rules of the road and the one i hate the most is the drivers that are soo concerned with watching you in the rear view mirror, they can tell that they are swerving lane to lane.

they see they are going 40 in a 60 so they want to watch and make sure they're pissing you off instead of moving.

  1. There are no driving classes in the highschools mainly because many people don't drive in NYC.  If an individual wants to get a license, however, they'll need to pass the written and driving test.

I'm a New Yorker and I didn't learn how to drive until I was 20 and living in California.

  2. That is correct.  NYC is a place where it's not mandatory to drive since it has one of the largest public transportation system.  If you need a driver's license, it's usually for ID purposes.  Not all of them drive everyday, even with cars, hence the term "weekend warriors."

It takes nerves of steel to drive in NYC.  I know, I learned on the streets of Manhattan and it turned me into a truck driver.  Now, I drive like a normal person in NJ.
