I think we have enough dental assistants thank you.

The average price of food has tripled in the last twelve months.

  1. So you're going to volunteer to go farm, to help feed the poor?  How noble of you!  .. or wait, you're saying you're not a farmer now since your highschool didn't teach you how to farm?

I don't recall any economists declaring that the cause of rising food prices is due to lack of personnel. The most common fingers pointed are: fuel costs, diversion of food crops to biofuels, and increased demand for higher quality foods from huge markets like China and India (demand from which is also blamed for fuel costs).  While more people in the industry might help the latter two, those are two sudden spikes, not a slow growth that would have been more easily foreseen; creating overabundance before it is needed simply drives people back out of the business, because they can't afford to live when they can't sell their products.

And actually, it seems there is still a tremendous demand for dental assistants; shortfalls are projected and they earn quite reasonable salaries.

Perhaps you suggest we should pay more for food to encourage more farming? Er, wait, you want more farming so we pay LESS for food.  How do you propose to encourage people to go into the business if you want to pay them less?
