  1. We do. We sing traditional hymns but I go to Mass to receive Christ and to hear the Mass not to be entertained.

  2. You must be talking about your own church.  There is LOTS of good music in our church.

  3. When I was catholic, we had music and sung Mass. I enjoyed it.

  4. It's news to me.  We have masses that don't have any music, masses that have hymns but the mass is spoken, and masses where the choir sings at every available opportunity.  The sung latin mass was always a big part of catholicism..think gregorian chant & the masses by the great composers among others.  I'm really suprised by this question.

Miss Dee: also suprised that you think it's a very strict place. It's always struck me as being a lot less severe and hardline than the protestant religions

  5. Each church is different, my Church have a choir the odd time, I love the singing as it up lifts the Spirit, and I wish it was part of every mass.

  6. I was raised Catholic and there was always music. I remember wishing that there was none! I wanted to throw that organ out the window ;)

  7. All of the masses I've been to have had music and I've been all over North America.  I'm calling troll on this one!

  8. I enjoy music in Church. My entire parish is full of people who love to sing and praise God through music.

  9. The Catholic Church has a great tradition and history of music, it is part of the liturgy. Problem is that people don't know much about the music to apply it properly to mass and other liturgical events anymore. Also, when it is used, the faithful don't know it well enough to jump in and sing along... and some people who go to church are a little too uptight to sing out load in public.

Personally I sing along during mass, but it would be helpful if the people sitting around me sang too; get the walls vibrating with praise and worship! People always turn to look at the guy singing at the top of his lungs by himself, when the 400 people around him should be doing the same thing.

Music is very important, it is something that the Church encourages.

  10. In the 60's and seventies in the US there were "folk Masses" with guitars and lively hymns. I also have never attended a Catholic mass with our hymns and music including funerals.

Are you sure you are Catholic?

  11. I think that Catholic church is a very traditional, strict place to be. (Not meaning to offend, but just my opinion, from experience). My Baptist church is just starting to get a bit more lively, but I prefer Pentecostal, just because it's so upbeat. I believe that church should be an enjoyable place!

Can't see the Catholic church agreeing to it, though, to be honest!

  12. I've never been to a Catholic Church without it.

  13. Catholics DO incorporate music into the Mass.

Weekly Masses certainly incorporate music, perhaps not always on the weekday Masses though.

  14. Consider yourself lucky. My church turned into the Sunday Ho-down

  15. i don't know where you are or where you go to mass but we definitley have music..i didn't know you were catholic..hmm

  16. no, catholics aren't supposta enjoy church, it's supposta scare you into thinking you have to be there. duh

  17. When I was a kid, we went to mass that incorporated music. Still didn't make me a believer.
