O.k. I breed gerbils and every thing that you remove the male gerbil went the female has pups?

But male gerbil help to rise the pups and in sometime make better mother that the females.

And everyone on this answering question says to remove the male and keep the apart for life, went it easy to have the male man hood removed, that way the male and female can live together with out more pups

O an if one person say it because breeding short the females live............... that what they do in the wild

  1. Because they breed right after giving birth, and some people don't want a hundred baby gerbils.

  2. If you leave the male inside he will eat the pups.

Just put him back when their to big for him to eat.

  3. Because they might dislike the pups and kill them, same with guinea-pigs and rabbits.

    Hope it helps

  4. This is not the wild, these are domestic animals and their wellbeing is our responsibility. Backbreeding a female is absolutely cruel. You should remove the male so that he does not get her pregnant again right after she gives birth. It's not fair to her to have to keep getting pregnant and giving birth with no time in between to recuperate. Sounds like you shouldn't be breeding at all.

  5. its because the male will mate with straight after she has givan birth and then u end up with a nother littler in couple of weeks and the others will only just be wiened of bye then it not very nice on her

  6. well i am not a breeder but personally i take the male out foor a while because unless you want more pups strait away which would be stressful for the female because she wouldnt have finished raising the other pups the female goes strate back into heat so the male can breed with her strait after she gives birth. also if u think about it the stress of having too many youngsters of different ages coz someone cant be pissed to take them male out would shorten her life  i think thats what the peeps are trying to say. :)

  7. I know that with hamsters the males are more prone to violence towards their pups; and are 40% more likely to be the one to kill them.

Though sometimes the male may help take care of the mother and her young, it isn't worth the risk.

  8. bc the male might kill the pups

  9. This is a very good question, so you my friend get a star!

I completely understand what you mean, you read everywhere that "Males will kill the young if left in the cage". This is complete and utter lies. As you said yourself, males help the mother raise the young, they ease the stress given to the mother especially if she has produced a large litter. The father will groom and keep the litter warm when she needs a well deserved rest. The father provides such a big role in breeding Gerbils.

I know some people do not keep the Male in because they do not want another litter to be conceived. I'm afraid this cannot be done as the male mates with the female immediately after giving birth.

To be a Gerbil breeder you need to be able to time keep, breeding is all about picking the right time and thinking fast.

    My method of breeding is as follows;

After the female has given birth to her first litter I leave the male in the cage to help out with raising the young thus another litter will be conceived. Once the pups have reached 5/6 weeks old or whenever they have fully weaned off the mother, I separate the male/female pups. Male pups go into a separate cage with Daddy and the female pups remain in the cage with Mummy to help raise the next litter. It is a full proof way to not over breed your Gerbil. All you need is a bit of time keeping!
