  1. Be sure not to substitute oil for your car with orange juice.

  2. I agree with the first answerer.  You have to take off all your clothes first.  And you have to wear a hat.  But only a hat.

  3. You need to fix them in a mixture of vinegar and baking soda.  One cup of vinegar and 1./2 cup of baking soda should do the trick.  Make sure you do this in total darkness or it will ruin the film.  Also you need to put in a slice or orange and a banana peel.  Also you cannot wear socks when doing this as socks have a chemical in them that will cause the silver halide that is in the film to dissolve.  I read in a photography magazine that some underwear has this same chemical.  So maybe better not take any chances.  Or maybe you should just take it to the wal mart one hour lab.

  4. I'm betting your were using OJ from concentrate.  You need to use fresh squeezed.

  5. OJ has ascorbic acid, but probably not in high enough concentration. Try adding some vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and some washing soda.

You might think about using coffee. I've seen some websites that got pretty good results.

  6. If I remember correctly, I think you should have used ammonia as a fixing agent....BEFORE you turned on the lights. This removes the unexposed silver halides and leaves the solid silver, which makes up the image.

  7. Are you, perchance, developing color film? The orange juice developing method is, to my knowledge, only for black and white film. This was a major flaw in the Mythbuster's test as well, though orange-juice developing is inherently flawed in of itself. While I've heard some rumors of C-41 (Color) film being developed in black and white, I've not done it myself, and I can imagine that it's an involved process. You also need some washing soda in your mixture.

Anyways, as I said, the orange juice mixture is inherently flawed. While many think it's the citric acid that's the active ingredient, it's actually the vitamin C (ascorbic acid). Unfortunately, there's really not enough Vitamin C in OJ for what you want to do. For one roll of film in 7oz of water, 8000mg of Vitamin C is recommended with about 5 tsp. washing soda. Washing soda can be found in the home cleaning aisle of your supermarket, and simply cannot be substituted with baking soda for this mixture. The developing time will be much more than 8 minutes; expect around 35 minutes at room temperature.

If I could make one final suggestion, I've found that the commonly obscure recipe for caffenol yields greater and more predictable results. For the common recipe, you need 4 rounded teaspoons Folger's instant coffee crystals, 2 teaspoons Arm and Hammer washing soda (again, do not substitute baking soda), and 8oz of water. Mix it all together, let the bubbles clear out for a few minutes, and then develop for around 30 minutes. Try longer or shorter times based on the results that you get.
