  1. look for leaks.  I have a mercury villager and finally at 200000 miles I found the leaks and tightened them up.  Keep looking.

  2. look for a leak especially over the exhaust manifolds. fill the system up and have it pressure tested. if there is a leak over the exhaust it will bun off leaving no clue to where it went

  3. While it is normal for cars with a coolant recovery system to  use some coolant from the bottle during long runs, It is a well known fact among Ford techs that both the 3.0 and 3.8 V6s were prone to coolant leaks, with little or no evidence of using it. Either blown head gaskets, or leaking around the exhaust manifold bolts (which s***w directly into the water jackets) are the common culprit...get the car professionally checked.. It could be something simple.. or the beginning of a much larger problem....

  4. that 3.8 has been know to have cylinder head problems its probabli a very small leak that you dont notice  it on the exaust. check the oil cap for a choclate like substance bue i would guess its too small a leak to see. try pouring glass water about a 12 ounces in the radiator that fixed my cougar. you can get glass water in your local farmacy not joking  i thought it was a joke too when i was given this remedy.

  5. It has to be a head gasket if you don't see it leaking anywhere. Sorry.

I had a ford torea$$ with a 3.8 that did this to me. There was actually an extended recall on my '94 which ended 1 month before it went bad.
