Why ferns are not classified as mosses?

  1. Add to the previous comments:  ferns have dominant sporophytes whereas mosses have dominant gametophytes.


  2. A couple of reasons..

    the MAIN reason is the fact that mosses are non-vascular plants and ferns are vascular plants

    also ferns have leaves called fronds and they are more developed

  3. The biggest difference is that ferns have vascular tissue while mosses do not.  In terms of evolution, this is HUGE.  Therefore they are classified differently.
