  1. Back home they used to charge a lot for very little and it always tasted gross, so I used to take my own food. Here they disallow eating or drinking on trains or in cabs, which works out well if you don't like the smell of Duriam.

  2. because they are making for travellers, it means us and for making more money.

  3. The law of supply and demand.  If you are hungry and want to eat, where else can you go to get food on a moving train?

  4. black-market

  5. well its not even that costly. you can have meals @ Rs 32,

cold drinks & water bottles might be costlier -> (compare even  these with theatre rates...you ll find them less costly)

  6. To answer the question is not so simple. It is not just because the food is in demand. The actual reason is generally the food items are being sold on contractual basis. That means in order to get the contract, the contractors do all possible kinds of stuff to attract the chiefs of Railways. Thy bribe them a lot. So in order to get back their spent amount they hike the prices despite poor quality of food. As many have mentioned it is also the demand factor that keeps them alive all the time.

But this can be avoided by boycotting the purchases on Railway atmospheres. Rather we prepare them at home or buy on the way to station but not on platform or in train. But again this is never possible in India as there is wide diversity in Unity.

  7. Because they know they have a captive market, you can't get off the train, if you get hungry you have to buy their food. So they s***w the maximum amount of money possible out of you.

  8. HAVE U EVER EATEN FOOD WHEN U R IN MOTION....REALLY DIFFERENT. THERE4,COSTLY,SIMPLE!!!

  9. You're a captive audience because they know there is nowhere else to buy stuff from - so they capitalize on it by charging you a fortune for everything!

Protest with your wallet ... don't buy anything from them.

  10. Because they can charge it! There's nowhere else to buy food from, so they charge what they want! How rude!

  11. Mostly they are cooking in the train, which is a risk, then also they take the risk to serve fresh to the passengers. It deserves some more price.

  12. It's not just a train, all food out there in the transportation industry is WAY overpriced. It is everywhere and it will not change. It's how they make up for the overpriced cost of fuel these days. Hope this helps!!!
