Ok I'll have a go at 'why is Liverpool's terrace called the Kop'.

During the Boer war in South Africa at the turn of the 19th century the British Army suffered heavy casualties during a battle on a hill top known as Spioen Kop (Africaans for spy or lookout hill). The fighting and all the casualties at Spion Kop fell to the four Lancashire battalions of the Lancastrian brigade, some of which where forerunners of the Kings Regiment which was (and until its recent amalgamation into the Duke of Lancaster's regiment) mainly recruited from Liverpool.

After the Boer War Liverpool FC built a big stand to accommodate the many people who where becoming interested in football, and it was only natural that this big hill was christened 'Spion Kop' by locals many of whom will have fought in the battle. Other big stands at stadiums throughout the country where called 'Spion Kop' around this time, but Liverpool's is the most famous.

Anyone raise me and think there was different question?
