  1. Scorpio is absolutly right, and Adzu has a valid point.

If the outlet is dead, check the breaker. You must turn a breaker off then back on to reset the breaker points. If there is no power after that, CALL a Professional Electrician!

Adzu's point of being very careful is actually a good one, you are working with enough power to bake a roast and dealing with a cold water ground, too. BE CAREFUL

  2. There is a reset switch located at the bottom of the disposal unit. Check that first. It just needs to be pushed in if the button has popped out. I would plug in a small lamp to the plug in to see if there is power to the plug in. If not, that would explain why the disposal is not working. I would recycle the breaker anyway (flip it off then on). Sometimes, a breaker does not fully trip and therefore it appears that it hasn't tripped even though it has.

  3. could be either a bad plug, the circuit breaker could be bad, or the disposal motor is bad.  try pushing in the reset button on the bottom of the disposal.  if none of this works, call a plumber

Disposals aren't all that difficult to replace.  you may be able to do it yourself.

  4. check the plug with a voltmeter, or leave that to an electrician if you're not sure. Whatever you do, don't do it bare naked with you feet wet!!!
