I cant take credit for this ... i overheard it and i got to thinking... yeah... so thats the agenda..if we utilize electricity from the big power companies instead of fossil fuels then these companies can just shut us down completely... i think thats called control... like disarm folks, switch to electric cars... and dont let entpreneures come forth with their discoveries that can either limit or eliminate foreign oil dependence and............ provide electricity without the big power companies...

  1. nice conspiracy thought there. the reality is that eventually we will run out of crude oil, and we will need alternate forms of energy. we are developing them now, but it will take time to get the infrastructure in place. the sooner we do that, the longer our crude oil reserves will last, and the stronger our economy will be in the long run. i have never changed my stance that we need to drill for oil here in this country, and that we need to liquefy coal to make motor fuels from, but we also need to put the brilliance of this country to work and get the alternate forms of energy to the market. this way we are still the world leaders when it comes to innovation.

  2. I can't believe that there is so much misinformation out there, doesn't anyone do any research.

Those big utility companies out there at in it for one reason, and that is to make money.

While it is true that if everyone converted to electric vehicles, it would over extend the supply as it is now.

Conversion to electric cars is going to be a slow progression, not an overnight thing.

California is already gearing up for the extra drain on power, installing 2 of the largest solar farms in the world, and well as the largest wind farm.

not to mention what T Boone Picket is doing in Texas.

in addition to that we can always install solar panels for our own personal use.

While it will take on average of 7 years to pay off a full solar panel set up for the home, at the current electric prices, compare that to exchanging fossil fuel for electric power the pay off will be much faster.

Think about how much electricity could be generated if everyone would put one solar panel on their house.

  3. The only difference is that the electric companies will consume the fossil fuels to generate the electricity that will power the cars. Electric plug in cars are NOT the long term answer. What is needed is a better HYDROGEN fuel cell car and cars that can run on alternative fuels like BUTANOL derivatives.

  4. In the hear future (hopefully), we will be generating electricity from renewable sources, such as wind and solar. I thought there was something about the improved efficiency of an electric vehicle over an internal combustion engine powered vehicle, as well.

  5. The majority of kWh produced by US power companies are still from fossil fuels. Switching to that electricity is not getting off fossil fuels at all. It is switching to the  fossil fuel with the biggest carbon impact.

There would be no point in switching to coal based electricity, and nobody is encouraging that.

If switching to electricity includes building solar and wind or other sources of electric power, including home grown, then we appear to be on the same page. But nuclear may be part of the mix, and that is likely to be big corporate control.

  6. You are just another paranoid conspiracy theorist who believes in things that can't possibly work (you also call con-men entrepreneurs which is really quite disgusting).

The power companies aren't going to just shut you down if they can help it, especially if you are paying for electricity from them.  Electric cars would also make it easy to deal with the fossil fuels problem since fossil fuelled power plants can be easily replaced by nuclear power plants that don't emit any CO2 (solar and wind are a waste of money since they require fossil fuel backup).

  7. There are laws in place to prevent things like this from happening.  That is why many people want to get away from using foreign oil because we are dependent on the middle east and really we are at their mercy.  What you are talking about the electric company will do is a lot like communism and I don't think you need to worry about that happening.  If we just used electricity we can get it from many companies, not just one, there will be wind, solar, and hydro companies.

  8. choices are nice.
