Why gives "smarks" the right to judge wrestlers and say they can't wrestle?

Can these so-called "smarks" wrestle? I think not. So what gives them the right? NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO TELL WRESTLERS HOW TO DO THEIR JOBS UNLESS THEY ARE ACTUALLY IN THE BUSINESS ITSELF. aND YES, I am guilty of judging wrestlers myself, but I think we should stop and enjoy this sport for the beauty of it.

  1. i train and im part of a ring crew, does that count? lol

  2. But, we can still say they have a limited move set right? (lol)

  3. If the Performers in the WWE were required to have amateur wrestling backgrounds, most of the WWE Roster could be released today. Most of the WWE Performers learned how to wrestle as WWE Superstars or WWE Divas. Beth Phoenix, Shelton Benjamin, Vladimir Kozlov, Natalya, Chavo Guerrero, Chris Jericho and Charlie Haas are among the few WWE Superstars who learned Free-Style Wrestling or Greco-Roman Wrestling. Many of the NFL Players that you see in the audience at Live Events and Pay Per Views were wrestlers in High School and College. I did some Free-Style Wrestling my Freshman Year in College, so I do have an appreciation for wrestlers who can apply wrestling holds and wrestling moves.

  4. Here's the thing, since I'm assuming you're speaking about fans in general (especially since all would be considered a "mark" in some way or another):

People seem to have the right to judge what they are viewing because they are consumers of the product. Professional Wrestling is advertised to us, the spectators, and we can determine if it entertains us or not.

Every spectator is guilty of making judgments of the show, but that's not their fault. People can judge the product. It's when people take it too far to not only mindlessly bash, but put down the spectators around them that like something they may not (for example, a John Cena hater bashing every John Cena fan and calling them g*y and other names).

  5. I am a fan, and i spend time and money on the product.  Without fans paying for things, these wrestlers would not be making much now would they?  I have EVERY right to criticize the performance I am spending time and money on.  Who are YOU to say I or anyone else cannot?  I don't have to be in the business to know what I want out of it.  There would BE NO BUSINESS if it weren't for the fans and "smarks" you speak of.

  6. I agree with you.I get tired of people constantly saying this person cant wrestle,or that person sucks.just enjoy it for what it is.entertainment.

  7. I watch the show and go to the events which pays their salaries.  It's entertainment so yes I can judge them.  Just like I can say Rex Grossman can't throw worth a c**p and Paul Pierce is overrated.  They make all that money because we pay to see them giving us the right to voice our opinions.

  8. People in the US are naturally born with the right to say whatever they want to about professional wrestlers, even if it means coming on this site and ranting about it.  That doesn't make it right, but that's the truth.  Even you yourself said your guilty of doing the same, so maybe if you asked yourself the same question there would be no need for you to ask us.  Just a thought. Personally, I've found myself guilty of judging wrestlers.  Some of the "talent" in WWE look a bit sloppy in the ring.  My own opinion.  Some, were hired in WWE before actually learning to wrestle.  Kelly Kelly watched a few OVW shows, an now she's on the main diva roster.  It seems that your taking the "Don't bite the hand that feeds us" approach.  The problem is, WWE doesn't always feed us good wrestling matches.  I've seen some great wrestlers from many companies around the world.  And witnessing it, I can appreciate a good wrestler these days.  Not everyone has to be a former high school wrestler.  But it helps to have some experience. And by the way, I doubt these "smarks" have actually gone up to a wrestlers face and TOLD them how to do anything. So chances are anybody who reads this cannot directly answer this question. PEACE.

  9. Well...Khali can't wrestle!

  10. .......

  11. I agree. Even "dirt sheet" writers can be overly critical of an art form they don't fully understand. Most of the wrestlers often ask how someone can say that another wrestler is or isn't a good worker if they haven't worked with them. Most smarks have a higher level of criticism because of what they know about the business - more-so than those who haven't been exposed to the secrets.

The problem is you can't tell a smark that he/she's is wrong because the majority of them think they're wise to the business. It doesn't matter how many shoot interviews they watch, or how long they've been a fan, they're still on the other side of the fence.

Triple H is a prime example. So many smarks complain constantly about his apparent politics backstage. They go straight for the neck every time wrestlers like him, Hogan, Cena, Michaels, or Flair are mentioned. The smarks tend to discredit the accomplishments and the ability of a wrestler because of their personal dislike, rather than having an unbiased informed opinion of them.

John Cena is another example. Hey, we all know that Cena will never have a technical wrestling masterpiece like Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit could, but that's not how wrestling works. Wrestling is still a stage show and I'll be damned if Cena can't get those kids to pop like crazy. For as much money as Cena makes for the company it's just smart business to keep him around.

The biggest problem is a relatively simple one. Many of them think they know what is best for wrestling and are angry that they aren't getting to watch what they want to see.  They are forgetting that the show is not there to appeal to only to them. Some smarks like blood, some like wrestling, others want more women, and still others want the same guy to be champion at all times. So who's right? It's hard for them to see wrestling as the glamourous show it used to be when they were growing up - but you see - that's the point. They loved the show before they were exposed to all the behind-the-scenes workings. Vince has to do things to cement an audience of younger fans so that they'll continue to watch for years to come. Unfortunately that means that the older views might often be subject to scenes and situations that are designed for kids. There are alternative wrestling promotions that focus on pure wrestling, like Ring Of Honor, and should suit the pure wrestling fans just fine. All in all it's not worth it to watch WWE and complain about it's programming because it's not going to change for us "older" viewers any time soon.
