Question:

Why go green when global warming is inevitable regardless of our efforts?

I have read and seen tv documentaries that have proven that the earth warms and cools naturally in relation to earth's orbit of the sun. Now proof of this can be seen quite simply by just knowing that there was an ice age some 10s of thousands of years ago. It's not as if primitive man had factories billowing out tons of pollution, nor would the fires they made had any impact on the earth's warming. There is no doubt that we are affecting the rate at which the earth is warming, like covering yourself with a blanket(pollution) while moving closer towards a heater (sun) that is on full power.

So while we may be able to slow down the effects of global warming what's the point in limiting our life style by going green when it will only delay the inevitable?

  1. Don't confuse timespans of decades with 10's of thousands of years ago in the past. If CO2 buildup causes warming, then the natural variation will be exaggerated at it's high points and lead to mass extinction. There is a range of expected temp increase and the outcome depends on what it is. Nobody knows for sure how much it will warm. But if we don't decrease our CO2 ouput, we may be heading for an irreversible manmade environmental catastrophe. Life will bounce back... if you've got a few million years to stick around and wait. Humans will probably be extinct by then.

  2. Global warming is more politics than science at this point. We really do not know yet if this is a problem. This has only been studied for about 15 years but it has been a very popular political issue. We may find that global warming is a major problem so it is important to study it but we do not know how to predict the worlds climate yet.

If I had to choose between an ice age and a warmer climate I would choose warm.

  3. Going green is often cheaper in the long run.  My husband changed over to florescents because they saved him $ on his heating bill.  We drive a smaller car - cheaper to insure, cheaper to run.  We live in a modest well insulated house.  We have a lower impact on the environment, true, but we are comfortable with less heating or cooling than we would need in a larger house.  We dry clothing on the line when possible.  No heat from the clothes dryer to be cooled in the house...

It goes on and on.  If I pour hot water on the dandelion, it cost me a few pennies.  If I buy chemicals to treat the same weed, it cost me 2 or 3 dollars.

Conservation of resources and protecting the environment often go hand in hand with conserving dollars and protecting our financial well-being.

In addition, reducing demand for oil will get us off the pipeline sooner.  I see absolutely no reason to fund both sides of th war on terror.

  4. because hippies are taking over the world. ;)

  5. You are right about the earth changing naturally over time.  The problem is people can only really conceive of their own lifetime.  People mentally can know things change over time but if they actually experience a change in their status quote they freak out.  They want things to be constant, unchanged.  In the past they prayed to gods, made sacrifices.  These days we believe in the new priests of climate change that somehow man is the cause of the weather and man can reverse the scary change if we just sacrifice enough, like or wealth, security, freedom.

  6. Because there's no point in throwing gas on a house fire.

  7. Because the longer it is delayed for the better...duh!  some other solutions might be invented in time to save the world in this time! lol!

  8. B/c green is a cool color...

Seriously, though...Polio was a natural event. Why bother with Polio vaccines? Everybody dies anyway. Why delay the inevitable? Try being responsible instead of using that tired (and disproved, BTW) excuse.

  9. Because a lot of people fall for the propaganda that says it is our fault.

  10. We should go green for the right reasons.  It is always good to conserve, regardless, but not for the global warming scam.

  11. Scientist Implicates Worms in Global Warming

Jim Frederickson, the research director at the Composting Association has called for data on worms and composting to be re-examined after a German study found that worms produce greenhouse gases 290 times more potent than carbon dioxide.

Worms are being used commercially to compost organic material and is in preference to putting it into the landfill. The German government wants 45% of all waste to be composted by 2015.

"Everybody... thinks they can do no harm but they contribute to global warming. People are looking into alternative waste treatments but we have to make sure that we are not jumping from the frying pan into the fire," said Frederickson.

  12. Well delaying the catastrophes that global warming will bring is better than having it happen right now. You might say that it cannot be changed but in that, you are neglecting the power of our technology. There will be a period of time where what we do will only delay the catastrophes, but our technology will constantly improve, resulting in more efficient usage of energy and transport, not only improving the quality of our lives, but at the same time focused to saving our Planet Earth. There will then be a period of time where what we do (environmentally) will balance out what we emit (greenhouse gases and fumes). After several years, what we do for the environment will slowly surpass the gases we emit, and allow us to slowly lessen the global warming effect.

Also, if all of us(worldwide citizens) hace the same attitude as you, "while we may be able to slow down the effects of global warming what's the point in limiting our life style by going green when it will only delay the inevitable?" then that means we should not limit our lifestyle just to stop the inevitable, right? If that's the case, then Earth will slowly become more and more unsuitable for us to live in, then does that mean that we don't have s*x or reproduce since the future is hopeless? Does that mean that we continue our wasteful lives without any hope for improvement?

    Please think positive!

  13. Regardless of the myth of global warming 'all' products sold should be efficient.  Slapping a 'green' label on a product merely makes it look like the manufacturer is doing you some kind of a favor selling you a product that they claim is a countermeasure to the myth; but it is no myth about how much profit those yuppies earn off the fears, uncertainties and doubts of the mindless media consumer by running their companies selling overpriced 'green' stuff so they can laugh--- all the way to the bank with your money.

  14. so the Greene's can kill the economy first

  15. Just a scam so we can buy "GREEN" stuff....

  16. The conspiracy theorists will tell you that "global warming" is another way of saying "more government control of our lives".....

  17. Because we can make it a whole lot better.

Unreduced global warming would be an economic and human disaster.

Reducing it is practical and affordable.

  18. "Going green" isn't always about losing. Mostly it's about replacing what you have with alternatives and every little thing helps. It's not about protecting your life, it's about protecting the lives of those that come after you and the wild life and the world as a whole.

Also, going green also goes hand in hand with cleanliness and money-saving at times. Yes, some things like solar power heating can be expensive to buy (but can pay itself off in 10 years), but why can't we just recycle even if it seems that it would be pointless? I mean, don't you think landfills are a disgusting waste of space? Also, burning fossil fuels can only last for so long before that resource runs out.

About delaying the inevitable, we're destroying the natural process of the Earth. If all the ice caps were to melt (which would take a h**l of a lot), there would be no ice ages and the cycle is destroyed. It's there for a reason. Water will be gone and there will be no chance of rebirth after the ice age like there has always been. The planet will be destroyed and plants and animals gone forever. Well, that's the extreme, I guess.
