  1. Well I like to go out and I ALWAYS tip.  Yes, some are not as good servers as others, but I still tip.  I will tip the good ones pretty generously.  I found out that if you say thank you or no thank you and just be more courteous to them, the service is alot better.  I don't know why, but they do treat me better.

  2. because theres no law saying i have to do what you think i should.

that being said, i almost always tip.  but d**n it, if i dont want to, i dont have to.

  3. Tipping is cool. I do it if I have the money. But just like we are working for ours, they are working for theirs. With the way the economy is going now, who has extra money to tip. Shoot... people are barely scraping up enough change to go to eat. Some places make you pay and add it in with your meal. So if they feel that strong about tips then they should follow that rule and add it in.

  4. Have you seen Reservoir Dogs?  Mr. Pink does not believe in tipping!  That being said, and as a former bartender, wait staff need to earn a tip.  I don't believe it is a given.  I am going out to dinner to be served.  I am never rude but I have special requests and enjoy dinning.  If somebody is not engaging but gets the job done a standard tip, funny and gives great recommendations 20%, rude blames the kitchen or slow 0-10%.

  5. I totally agree with this. My husband on the other hand would not. He feels if He doesn't get good service then he is not obligated to tip. This really annoys and embarrasses me. I tell him that no matter what the service was like a tip is customary. I don't know if he even tipped before he met! I will even tip behind his back once he has left the table!!!

  6. to eat.

  7. We don;t go out to eat if we can;t afford to tip. This is how these people make a living. The type of service affects the size of the tip.

  8. Wow..  Lots of answers here..  Well, first off, after reading the last answer. being tipped out is not making "free money" my dear.  Do you know what waitresses are paid an hour from there employer??  Probably not even enough to drive to work after taxes.  They work very hard and work to be tipped out.  For some reason I thought most people knew that but I guess not..  They literally don't make money if they are not actually working.

Ofcourse if the service is bad the server probably does not deserve the 20 percent tip..  But for all the walking, talking, carrying food and so forth and so on for you they do deserve SOMETHING..  That's for sure..

Sometimes if something goes wrong it isn't always their fault..  Think about that for a change.

Sometimes people will go into a restaurant and order the half off specials and tip very low on that just because they are cheap...  It's very very annoying.  I'm sorry, if you just saved 5-10 dollars then why don't u just tip accordinally?

And if people can't afford to tip because of the gas prices...  Well, I'm sure your server spent the same amount on gas to get to the same place as you..  And I am sure your server has to spend the same amount on gas to get home from that place.  But when they get  ignorant cheap customers they don't get to go out to a restaurant and spend twice as much on food that they could just be cooking at home because THEY DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO TIP...  Hmm..  Then again.. Maybe I am just out of my mind.

So yea..  I strongly believe you shouldn't go out if you can't tip...  I believe that you should never walk into a restaurant and see 15 people sitting there before you and act as if you are the only customer there and need the best service right then and there...  If you are seriously in that big of a hurry...  FAST FOOD.

And I think one thing some people need to realize is...  Somebody in that restaurant is going to remember you..  Nobody is going to want to wait on you..  But they will.. Because that is their job...  But then again.. I guess what you don't know won't hurt you right?  Maybe you shouldn't just trust anybody with your food...  Maybe ya oughta just go home save some cash and worries and cook it yourself..  Oh yeah..  And WAIT on yourself too.

  9. if you cant afford to tip the proper amount, then you should go to mcdonalds

  10. Well I like to tip...but if I don't have money, I tend to get stuff to go, and in a way I'm saving time, money, and get to be creative of where I will go enjoy my food with my friends...I trick the system...just when I can't afford it...I'd like to be tipped if I waited.

  11. I am so sick of people bitching because of a small tip . If you don't like your job , QUIT !  I work hard for my money , waitresses should , also , and not expect FREE money , just for doing what they were hired to do .

  12. I kinda follow with that question.

But sometimes I guess people don't tip because

the waitor didn't do his/her job correctly.

Or some people might not have enough money to

    tip the waitor.

  13. The reason for going out is not to tip but to enjoy yourself. That being said I always tip 20 % except if it is a serve yourself buffet and then I tip $5. I even tip a dollar at a drive thru.

  14. Some servers do a bad job. They take forever to give you drinks and your food and they don't get your order right at times. I believe tipping is just a way of saying thank you for your excellent service. I was once a server and I noticed that if I was punctual with my orders and drinks and provided the best customer service, I get better tips. But, I have made a couple mistakes before in which people tipped me little or none. I honestly think tipping isn't always necessary. If they don't like how much they're getting from tips, find a better job. Uncle Sam loves to audit servers anyway from the "unclaimed" tips. I ended up owing the IRS $500! I would rather be a hostess at a restaurant. I wouldn't care if I got tips or not. Luckily, I'm through with any restaurant jobs unless I own one. I hate living off of tips anyway. It's instant gratification but seriously, taxes come back to haunt you! LOL!
