Why go to the top of a tall building only to put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Because it's interesting to see things from a different perspective. I guess, I have only done that on the Grand canyon.

So you can look at things that are a long ways away instead of having to drive to them ...... = )

Because people have nothing better  to do with their time or money
