  1. Because it came after the huge rush of Buddhism. Prior to the Period of the Gupta's, Buddhism started pushing Hinduism aside, especially in the core areas of Pradesh. This is where the Gupta's arose from, and where the seat of their power remainded until they were conquered several hundred years later. During the reign of the Gupta's the number of Hindu Gods exploded up to around 10,000 with each village having a god or two as well as a Shiva Lingam (ahem - a type of phallic Sacred Stone of Shiva). These cultural aspects came from the Gupta's and are still a part of Modern Indian Life.
