  1. It is due to the good quality of everything.

  2. It was not in the 1960 its only happened since we have been in Europe They stopped us from almost being self sufficient. Stopped us growing some types of apples so as the French could sell there Golden Delicious c**p and a lot more like types of spuds, cut down on how many beef cattle we had and the size of dairy herds. It just gos on and on.

  3. Because we have a large group of people who live off the tax payers - politicians, immigrants, lazy UK non-workers, useless civil servants, council workers, etc. etc.   All fat greedy pigs with their snouts in our troughs.

  4. The statement is far too generalised and  basically untrue. Today "rip off Britain" is a direct product of the wish of a small sector of the Brit population being motivated to making money by cheating the majority of the UK population manifested by running their own business or else fiddling the benefit system rather than "honourably" working for an employer for a fair wage. We have also inherited the idea that militant trades unionism will get you rich at the expense of others. Today the cost of living as a result is higher than in under developed countries and higher than in such developed countries as the United States. Added to this belonging to the EU has been a factor in putting up the price of everything to equate to the highest costs of other member states. But the situation 60 years ago was totally different, as we were then nearing the end of being masters of "the British Empire", but also in those days the cost of living in USA was far higher than in UK because they had not been so involved in the losses of World War II that so crippled Britain. Go back two hundred years and again circumstances were totally different when ewe were masters of the British Empire and exploiting the wealth of colonies. This is far too complex a subject to deal with adequately in YA..

  5. It hasn't it was always one of the cheapest in the western world until recent years when the economy went into the worlds top five.

  6. Probably because it's an island and there isn't loads of room here so land is precious. Therefore businesses have high outgoings and have to charge high rates. Oh and the fact that lots of things have to be imported from other countries. Especially as we don't actually MAKE anything here anymore!
