Once a quaint little ol market town...Now its a BIG town full of traffic-foreigners-blocks of flats and terrible pedestrian access. Full of empty shops, charity shops, druggies and hoodies. An average football team that has been asset-stripped yet still charges ridiculous admission prices. A swimming pool fit for a town a quarter of the size of Ipswich.

Housing estates left in decline. A town with very little choice of recreation. They close our famous outside pool, its now derelict and a green slimy pond. A council that wastes money on daft and unnecessary projects.

They should have a "meet the councillors and town planners" day. Now that would be fun.

  1. Sounds like the Ipswich I knew 20 years ago.

I'm sure your town is not unlike most other places in the UK.

The town I live in, the council is the same, wasting money on useless projects.

But we do have lovely swimming pool though!!!!!

  7. Ipswich  Massachusetts  USA isn't so hot either.

  8. I have lived in Ipswich for the last 4 years and actually really like it. I work in a school, out of Ipswich, but the kids love the football team, and isn't part of supporting a team going through the bad as well as the bad??? I must agree the admission is ridiculous, and that is the football industry for you. There is a lot of regeneration going on in ipswich, but as you say the money is not always going to the right places, and certainly not to the right areas.  As for the outside pool, well health and safety would have had that away sooner or later. There was also a rumour that they were trying to shut one of the local parks.. a ridiculous idea as there is not enough recreational space for kids as it is. And the activities that are available, like bowling, carting and laser quest are very expensive. Over the summer Town radio did advertise different activity days for kids, and there are loads of skate parks, so i think we do have it a lot better than other towns. Lowestoft for example has only a handful of skate parks and no real organised activities in the community.  I have begun to notice that there is an increase in grafitti around Ipswich, particularly on bridges on the A14. I jnust think that the longer it stays the more normal it will seem and before we know it there will be grafitti everywhere. So yes i am having a bit of a rant as well, however we must think of the positive, there are some really friendly people and the mixed culture that is present in the town only adds to the texture of the town. Expansion is not a bad thing... not attending to the accompanying economic and social problems is the towns downfall. We need more police and community officers on the street.  They found the resources during the murder hunt this year (extreme circumstances i know), there were police everywhere, even knocking on our doors, we need a greater presence around the town to deal with the growing problems.

There is one way to stop Ipswich being a dump... run for election in the council, get involved in local projects etc... it will only become as much of a dump as we let it.
