Question:

Why has Team GB been so dominant in all the track cycling events?

Considering we usually settle for second best, it has been hilarious to see us literally BLOW the competition away.

There are some excellent track cycling teams from other countries, but they literally can't even compete.

As soon as one of our track cyclists starts pedalling, a few minutes later and there's a gold medal dangling from their neck.

Just why has our tiny country turned out so many cycling greats? I have heard it might be something to do with our "revolutionary" body suits. Is this true?

What is it that the UK cycling federation has done to churn out such confident winners????

Look forward to your comments!

  1. I think it's because of the training facilities at the manchester velodrome.

  2. The money that has been invested, Plus, cycling is something that just about any young person can get into. We're not so hot at athletics.

  3. We're good at anything that involves sitting on our bottoms all day!

  4. because fewer countries participated as not all can afford a £2000 bike!

GB just has many talented cyclists. It just is.

  5. better training, and more money poured into it than all the other sports put together. Plus they are not squeamish about dropping people who don't come up to scratch which still happens in many of our other sports. They have simply adopted a siege mentality and pounded away, just the same way the Chinese do.

  6. It all comes down to the investment made for the manchester commonwealth games when they built the Velodrome, the facilities and staff up there are first class, and its paying dividends.

  7. I think the main reason that track cycling has been developed more successfully in GB than other sports is that they started from a clean sheet. A few years back before the last Olympics GB didn't have any reputation in this sport what-so-ever so bringing in new training methods was warmly welcomed especially when we started getting results. Other sports have been more resistant to change because they have been doing their own thing for a long time.

One of the things the Track team have focused on recently is the "aggregation of marginal gains", meaning adding all the small improvements they can, to make a significant gain in performance.
