  1. simple. it is because a lot of industries and automobiles even power generating plants use diesel as fuel. oil companies extract huge and wanton profits over it.

  2. Because more people are buying diesel cars,so put more tax on diesel fuel  to make more money for the fat cat M.P's in the U.K government.I don't know if it works the same in the USA.(Got a chance).

  3. Diesel and Home Heating Oil (HHO) are essentially the same product.  As more and more people move to colder parts of the country (Northeast, upper Midwest) and build larger homes, the consumption of HHO increases.  This, coupled with the new ULSD emissions rules, means that the refineries have to produce more, better fuel, out of the same lousy crude.

  4. Diesel is what moves trucks that moves product, the price of it at the beginning will be what we pay in taxes in the end.

Maybe theres more of a political angel rather than a shortage.

  5. Because the oil companies found out they can make more money off the truckers due to the truck not get good gas mileage. So they have to use diesel no matter how much it cost. The car companies  are under such restriction to get better gas mileage.

  6. I don't know but a reasonable explanation to this is; it has become more popular and therefore they are greedy for money and decided to raise the prices on it.

  7. In the US they need to remove a lot more sulfur then they did in the past, the Ultra low sulfur diesel is harder to make so it cost more.

  8. the new pollution controls [the government] have mandated a drop from 50 PPM [parts per million] of sulfer to 15 PPM..that and the price of crude going from 40 to 105 dollars a bbl.

  9. Simple supply and demand.  World wide diesel demand is increasing, primarily due to the progressive dieselization of the EC automobile fleet (where 50% of the new cars are diesel powered).  At the same time, increasing quality mandates, such as very low sulfur levels and higher cetane numbers, have forced refiners to add additional processing steps to diesel production, thereby increasing the cost of production and decreasing the availability of on road diesel.  So, increased demand, higher production costs, reduced availability = higher cost.  Economics 101.

  10. the main reason why it is going up is that its similar to home heating oil so that could be one. and just finding oil has become harder. and the middle east has also slowed the amount of oil it is proudcing

  11. The Oil b******s are charging more because diesels get better mileage. Heck I burn wvo. s***w the Oil Barons.
