We have passed the all time record for the wettest July by 20mm, and it is still raining! Is anyone else fed up with all of the rain?

  1. Looks like that area is under the nose of a subtropical jet stream that had not gone away for 3 weeks.

That jet stream steers storms straight into it, and any shortwaves that trigger storms (thunderstorms especially) often hit very near the jet stream.

That is why Toronto is getting "training showers and thunderstorms"...that is, showers and thunderstorms hit once in one place, and hit the same place again, and again.

With that, flash flooding could be possible.

  2. psh, I love rain... I am so thankful that it's cloudy today! I live in california.

  3. There has been an unusually persistent are of low pressure in the upper atmosphere north of there, near Hudson Bay.  Weaker disturbances have kept coming around this upper low and across southeastern Canada, which in turn have brought more than the usual amount of rain to that area.
