Question:

Why has my cat bitten a few people?

Recently I've noticed my cat has bitten a few people who've tried to pet or pick her up.

I've seen it, they don't handle her aggressively, but she's bitten them. I find it odd because many times I've just picked her up, swing her around, etc, and she never ever bites.

So why does she bite these new people?

  1. Well, for starters, most cats don't like being picked up and like to come to you generally and make the first move -so your kitty loves you A LOT!

These other people - that's her way of saying 'hey, you're rude! Leave me alone stranger!  If I want a cuddle or to play I'll come to you, okay!'  If it's more of a nip then she's trying to be good mannered to your house guests. If it's a proper bite then they're actually frightening her.

  2. she probably doesnt know them enough to trust them to pick her up and maybe scared!

  3. She might not like them, but she might have a sore back or something. That's what mum says when our cat does it.

  4. lol she may not like new people

im sure she likes being swung around in the air to lol hehe

  5. My cat sometime does the same thing. She wants to observe everything and tends to want to warm up to you first before she "allows" you to pick her up. Sometimes it just depends on who the person is.

And you're her parent! She's not going to bite you unless she's really upset.

  6. she obviously doesnt like strangers..thats common for animals :P

  7. Depends on the situation.

Cats bite to defend themselves when they don't like someone or are scared.  Very likely if she doesn't know these people.

    Or

Cats bite (nibble) to show love -- love nibbles -- if they are purring and rolling around, they might take a bite.  But that is out of love.
