Question:

Why has my cat emmigrated?

I had a lovely little cat for about a year. During that time I also got a large dog. They hated each other at first but grew to like each other - though I had to keep telling the dog to stop following her around as it annoyed her. She was very small so people always thought she was a kitten and would take her into their homes, feed her and phone me to come pick her up. She started to stay away from home for increasingly long periods of time and when she would return she smelt of perfume and seemed well fed -though her fur was matted and I had to de-flea her. Now she doesn't come home at all. I haven't seen her for a couple of weeks. Why is this? Could it be because of the dog? Or because maybe someone else has lured her into being their cat? I frequently heard people calling her when I was outside. Should I just let her go, or should I try and find her by putting up posters/listings etc?

  1. no matter how much we love out cats, they are not very loyal and will be easily tempted to live with someone else. if they think they are getting a better deal somewhere else eg more food etc they are likely to favour that home. 3 of my cats have done this over the years but because they are looked after and loved by that person i decided that the cat knew best and left them to a loving new home. Ask your neighbours if they have seen your cat. perhaps she is doing the rounds just to get food. the only way people will know that you have lost your cat is to put up posters with her picture on it. good luck.

  2. I'm not surprised the cat is missing to be honest. If you get her back the only way to keep her is by keeping her inside. But I'd put posters up around the area and stress how much she means to you etc. If someone has her you want them to be guilted into giving her back.

  3. sounds like someone has been feeding her and giving her more attention than you do, and if you have to question if you should go find her, then you should not...

  4. It's possible someone decided they were going to keep her.

Idk it's up to you. You could try fidning her, but if you allow her out, she's going to roam. A lot of outdoor, stray, and even feral cats have multiple "homes" where they eat.
