Question:

Why has my dental crown fallen off when I've had it only about a month?

It is on one of my rear molars. When I had braces, the silver caps the orthodontist places on my rear molars would fall off repeatedly. I hardly ever eat any chewy/hard candy, or any sweets for that matter. I do chew sugar free gum a lot, but that has never been what has pulled off the caps, or in this case the crown. It's usually been something like steak.

I brush my teeth and use month rinse, and probably don't floss as much as I should. My orthodontist once told my that a possibility for the caps coming off all of the time because my saliva was too acidic. Could this have something to do with it?

  1. It could be your saliva, or it could be your orthodontist. I would get a second opinion from another ortho.

  2. LAUREN,

CROWNS FALL OFF FOR SEVERAL REASONS

    1. A BAD PREP AND SUBSEQUENT POOR RETENTION.

    2. A VERY SHALLOW PREP OF THE REMAINING TOOTH STRUCTURE.

    3. EATING VERY STICKY FOODS.

    4. EATING/CHEWING ON JAWBREAKERS.
