Why has my grafted cactus become squishy?

It's around 6 inches tall, with a pink roundish cactus on top with the green "stem" cactus on the bottom. The bottom part has grown thin and soft, and when first bought it, the stem was hard and supple. I don't water it much, only when it looks dry. Is that what I'm supposed to do?

Try watering it every day unless you think its to late to save it.  Maybe it was infested.
