  1. If your sure temp/humidity was good and that its diet was adequate, then it could have been "old age" as another answerer stated.  A 5/6 month old emperor would be 2-2 1/2 inches long.  Anything 6 inches or longer is an adult.

Substrate is another consideration.  Some substrates mold easily and can cause bacterial and/or parasitic infections.  When dealing with high humidity creatures, it's a good idea to replace the substrate every couple of months or sooner depending upon the humidity levels.

  2. Are you 100% sure he was only 6 months old? If he was, he would've been about 1.5 to 2 inches long.. If he was full size, then he wasn't 6 months old..

A lot of people that buy them at pet shops buy the largest ones, but, they only live through I believe it's 7 molts? So, once they finish their last molt, They only live for a couple years after. Unfortunately, some people will sell old adult ones to pet shops to resell to the unsuspecting public, so, if yours was over 6 inches, he could've been elderly.

They generally live about 5-8 years in captivity with shorter life spans in the wild..

There are all kinds of other things that could've gone wrong though and there has yet to be much research on disease in scorpions. They seem to be a bit more resistant to parasite infestation then say a tarantula, but, some kind of infestation could've happened from prey animals. Those are still commonly sold as wild caught ones, so it could've already been infested before you got it..

  3. he could have just had a disease, he could have appeared normal externally but could be messed up internally
