Why has my ten-month-old baby started gagging on food?

My daughter has been gagging on stage 2 food for the last week. She's been eating this type of food for five months with no problems. I took her to the doctor last week, and she didn't have an explanation other than "she's playing games". I don't know how it could be a game because she gags to the point that her eyes tear up.

Has anyone experienced this? Could it be she's cutting her molars? The only time she doesn't gag is when she's eating cheerios off her tray,

  1. she could be gagging because she doesnt want anymore..or she doenst like it..my daughter did the same thing..if they are choking..a baby doesnt know how to breath..their mouth would be open and ..trust me you would know..

  2. Maybe she's just trying to get you not to feed it to her? Maybe she's just wanting to eat other foods. My daughter is only 3 and a half months old and always gags herself with her fingers and out of nowhere too. She purposely always gags herself!

  3. My son does this when he does not like the texture of his food.  I would go up a stage.  At 6 months old, I have to mix all of his food with the oatmeal, or else he will gag.  When I tried feeding him mashed potatoes the first time he gagged, then the second spoonful he spit it in my face.  I made it a tad bit thicker, and he loved it.  I would jump up to stage 3, and I bet it will stop.  :)  Good luck with your blessing

  4. Sometimes babies have to eat new foods up to ten times before they will swallow them willingly. It sounds as though your baby is disliking the texture of the number twos. Try a different texture. I can't say that with each of my children I always did the same thing because I did what worked for the individual child. Maybe number three would be better since its thicker? If your baby can handle cheerios this should be ok!

  5. Get an opinion of another doctor! fast! why would she purposely gag?? thats so stupid why a doctor would say shes playing games, when she gags til she cries? something might be wrong and the doctor is not getting a hint. maybe she can be allergic to what shes eating? could be the perservatives in the food? switch up her food, to see how she reacts.
