I have owned a leopard tortoise for the last two months. Have never owned one before and rescued her from a bad environment. She is kept in a five foot cage with lamps on during the day and has half gravel and peat free compost mixed with sand bedding.During the last week she has started to sneeze. The only thing i can think may be the cause is shake and vac which was used only once but not in a large quantity. Any ideas?

  1. upper repository infection??

    or

maybe it just got some dust or something that is irritating its nose

  2. I am afraid that I have absolutely no idea - but I would love to see a video of a sneezing tortoise on YouTube.  Like the infamous fainting goats.  It sounds really cute (but obviously I hope that your pet is not seriously ill)

    Good luck!

  3. Sounds like something in her enclosure is irritating her. It could also be an upper respiratory infection she needs to see a vet right away. Once a tortoise gets sick it take a while for them to get better because of their slow metabolism. If you live near a vet school see if they will look at her or know of a vet that specializes in exotic reptiles, the average vet will have no idea how to treat her. I hope everything works out well her you.
