Arie Luyendyk set a average record speed for the Indy 500 of 185.981 mph in 1990. With technology improvements over the last 18 years why has no one broken this record?

  1. Well if you watch the Indy 500 for the past decade, the weather sure has a big factor, It has rained almost every 500. Now, there will be a new record in this 500 by Ryan Briscoe take my word on this.

  3. Caution flags and if I'm not mistaken the cars are not as quick as they were in 1990 when the top speeds approached 240MPH in the straights.

  4. You need a caution free race.  That takes luck, good cars, and lots of driver skill.  That doesn't all happen very often.

    The cars are slower now than the early and mid 90s too.
