  1. As others have stated, a pump action 30-06 is not rare at all.  While bolt guns are much more common, any reasonable gunshop should know about pump action 30-06s.

I suspect these people are unable to give you good answers because you are simply telling them 'pump action 30-06' which is like saying 'pickup truck with 4 wheels!'

You need to state the manufacturer of the gun and the model of the gun.  Bring the gun to a gunstore and ask them then reward them by buying a box of ammo.

Once identified, you can get parts for it here http://www.e-gunparts.com/

As the other poster has said, a pump 30-06 kicks like a bolt 30-06...a lot more than a 22LR does.

I would suggest looking into buying 'managed recoil' 30-06 ammo to lessen the blow.

  2. try a recoil pad and parts can be found below

  3. If it's in good shape it should fetch about $300.

  4. I have personally hunted with a pump 30-06. Just because we can't instantly appraise your gun, with very little usable information I might add, doesn't mean no one knows what you're talking about.

  5. If I remember correctly, it was a pump action .30-06 that killed Dr. Martin Luther King. I remember that a friend had one, and felt so badly about the shooting, he sold it. But I disagree with the criticism about the gun. While my friend had it, he shot deer, rabbits, and coyotes with it all the time, and  we spent hours target shooting with it, and I don't remember the recoil being excessive (and we were only 14 at the time!)

As far as parts go, there are a number of sites for parts, and any competent gunsmith should be able to repair it.

  6. And you've never heard of the Remington 760?  They quit making it in '81 but you still see them now and then in the used gun market.  Today you can get a Remington 7600 or the 7600-P in .308 Winchester which is close if you want a pump-action thirty caliber centerfire carbine.  I like the 7600-P (Police version) myself.

  7. Is it a Remington 76, 760, or 7600?  I have a 7600 (the newest incarnation) in 30-06.  I don't think it kicks any more than the other rifles in 30-06 that I've fired, but it does get ones attention.  You might check out http://www.auctionarms.com , http://www.gunsamerica.com , and http://www.gunbroker.com to see if you can find something comparable to estimate it's worth in dollars, or to see if there are the parts you need.
