Question:

Why has parking permit prices increased so much?

I have just received my renewal for parking permit in Tower Hamlets, last year I paid £70. This year it has increased to £110. They say they have increased it because of the level of carbon the car releases. I only use the car weekends. If someone is driving a 1 litre car every single day, they would be releasing more carbon than me in a year, so I don't know how this works out. What has parking got to do with carbon emission, what do you guys think?

  1. Your right.  A parked car does not really generate that much in the way of carbon emissions.  I think they are trying to reduce the number of cars in the area by making it more expensive to own and operate one.  If they reduce the number of cars, there would be a decrease in emissions overall.
