~~Air~~:

Western media has been bully Beijing's air several month before the Olympics even started saying it's so BAD that it will sore your lungs and several late night talk show hosts poke fun of the air as a disease and will bleed and Conan pokes fun by letting one of his guys put a hazardous suit on a fake Beijing site.

I've had it with those cheap shots and propaganda that Beijing's air is so bad that it will affect the lungs of the throat.

  1. Don't forget the fact that some people brainwashed by the media think that China's some poor country too, when in fact they're actually lending America TRILLIONS of dollars.

And besides, if America can't take care of its poor, what makes you think that China, who has a billion more people than America does, can?

  2. Even though I'm Chinese, and absolutely love China's gymnastics team, I have to admit, some of the girls look younger than they're supposed to be. But they have the passports to prove that they're 15 and above and there's nothing anyone can do about it so please get over it.

A lot of people just don't understand how the judging is supposed to work. So they complain. A lot. And it's quite annoying. Also, a lot of the people complaining have never been to China and just don't know much about it, except for what the media is and we all know how unbiased the media is.

  3. It wasn't bullying or propaganda- the air quality in Beijing was horrible before the Chinese government started to clean it up for the Olympics. If they had not done such a good job, it would have damaged the athletes lungs and effected their performance. I think a lot of it is joking like the talk show hosts (they DO make fun of things for a living you know?), or just people don't know that the air pollution situation has been improved in time for the games.

In terms of the gymnastics issues I think a huge part of that is based on the age controversy. I think the Chinese government is lying about those girls ages, as do lots of other people. When people think you are lying in one area (age) they will begin to suspect you in other areas too (like judging). It is a combination of the ages of Chinas gymnasts and the fact that people just don't understand how technical and complex the gymnastics judging system is. If they see an obvious error in one performance like Cheng Feis then they think Alicia Sacramone should score higher, but the judging is more complicated than just obvious errors.

I don't know why people are upset about Liukins silver. The rule on that has been in place for 10 years I think, but I guess its because they suspect the judging is unfair maybe?

In terms of the ages I don't think that the 'underage' girls look any younger than some other girls on Chinas team, it is not looks but the evidence that makes me think the girls are 14 and not 16. China has also lied about gymnasts age before and gotten away with it (Sydney games) so I have absolutely no reason to believe they aren't lying now.

  4. I'll leave it.  When you have 77 protest applications and 74 are "voluntarily" withdrawn and the Chinese threaten two 70+ year old women with a labor camp, I'm pretty sure I know which totalitarian government has an axe to grind.

    From the footnoted article:

Bequelin notes that they "wouldn't even allow protests in their own designated protest zones in Beijing — protests that couldn't possibly have hurt anyone." Instead, at least five Chinese citizens applying to protest in the three official zones have been arrested as they've tried to register. Beijing has not commented on the arrests, but the state media has reported that all of the 77 protest applications submitted have been withdrawn.

  5. What is the big deal of CGI effects (besides only the footsteps were faked) in the opening ceremony? Do other countries do that too without letting people know? There were camera crew shooting from the sky at time. I would doubt what media would report if they were hurt by the real fireworks.  At least it is the Chinese media who disclosed the two fairs and I have heard any "praise" from the western media for their "brave" improvement.

  6. China is a developing country with a lot of factories, you cant expect it to be clean like Hawaii or whatever. Most of the factories are foreign owned so stop blaming it all on China. Its like oh lets all f**t in my room then complain that it smells. And I hate it when ignorant people who compare Beijing's air to where they live when they dont even live in a major city. Thats like comparing apple and oranges. If you want to compare Chinas air to yours then there are plenty of places in China that have much better air then you. Beijing JUST surpassed LA in more polluted air. I live in LA and the air around down town LA is just as bad as Beijing. We should be glad to see China putting so much effort in making the air around Beijing better. They are building parks, moving factories much farther away and banning cars who produces too much smog. I think they are moving in the right direction and we should encourage them instead of bitching all the time.

  7. It would effect me, even Los Angeles's air effects me when I visited and that's a lot less smoggy than Beijing.

    but to each his own.

For you to say that air would not effect anyone is obtuse and false.

  8. It is the problem of US media, they only tell you what you want to hear. They only care about rating, not truth.

Chinese Media, on the other hand, only tell you what they want you to hear. They only care about government authority, also not truth.

In my opinion, both are terrible jorunalisms, neither is better than the other.

  9. Here we go again,

What a waste time and 5 points.  Get a hobby and grow up.

  10. Don't forget the opening ceremony fake fireworks.  The Technical Directors WERE THE ONES WHO EXPLAINED this, the US media picks it up and publishes it as if they were the ones who "uncovered the secret/scandal".  The directors broadcasted a different angle for TV audiences to get an idea of how the fireworks looked, using cinematics.  And of course the Times tells the entire world that what we saw was fake.
