Question:

Why has the F1 section gone downhill?

The F1 section used to be such a nice little community, with top people like Top Gear, Val, Rosbif, Gatorade, Blue Angel and a few others giving really good comments. But recently it has been spoilt with fanatical upstarts bickering about Lewis, Ferrari this or McLaren that. How may times are we going to hear that stupid term McCheaters!

Don't you think we should get it back to the way it was, with good people appreciating the sport

  1. Formula 1 has gone down hill because excellent drivers like Michael Schumacher, Mika Hakkinen,Jean Alesi  have left these drivers knew a great deal about driving styles, and technics etc. and that stupid Bernie Ecclestone keeps on messing about with the rules instead of sticking to the old way, Michael Schumacher will tell you that the old system of things were far the best than todays rulings.

  2. You can add Gregnir to your list of good F1 contributors. Have't heard from him for a while.

I think it's partly due to the "Hamilton effect" - his meteoric rise to F1 stardom has attracted the attention of many who have not been interested in F1 before. All these F1 novices are now visiting this site, posting naive questions like "Who will win the championship?" (a valid question, but rather too frequently asked), "Is so and so the best ever F1 driver?", "Indy car vs F1 car? etc. Hopefully, they will become more knowledgeable and start asking more in depth questions which invite active discussion.

And ofcourse, we have the Nascar fans, dirt bike fans and the occasional chemistry students contaminating this site.

  3. I must admit, I'm not answering a lot of questions at the moment.

Between the points -gamers, the people who pick wrong answers as best answers and the people who just seem to have an aversion to certain other participants, it isn't as much fun in here as it was a few months back. There are also a few people who are regularly giving previous answers as their own work and not crediting the original contributor, which is just plain rude.

I agree with you in that if I never hear "McCheaters" or "Ferrari International Assistance" again, I will be delighted.

  4. I did not know there was one but if it is going downhill maybe it is because you can go faster downhill

  5. Hmm I think Formula 1 just went downhill after the likes of Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna (RIP) Nigel Mansell went.. Whether it is too dominated by technology I don't know but it just lost its edge to me... It seems toned down in some way.

  6. i came here from the horses section because of all the kids asking"is my horse pretty"or"do i look good on my horsey"and flooding the question board with stupid and uneducated questions and hoping that this board has more intelligent questions with educated answers but trolls are in every post since school is out .

  7. oh yeah!! will then you can go &%$)=)(''%%#"!%(''(&)(*{?_?})(('&$"#!&'(... now how was that for rude comments!!!

  8. This section was really good last season but it started to die down towards the end and during the offseason. It's still ok, some of the other regulars still drop by occasionally.  There have been some annoying people who ask questions that have nothing to do with anything or just plain want to talk rubbish about F1 and it's fans but most of us have learned to just ignore them and they don't last long.

I've noticed similar things in the basketball, rugby, tennis, and some other sections i regularly visit people who are new to the sport and think they must pick one side or player over the other, argue with each other and get caught up in the things that have nothing to do with the sport at all.

  9. Maybe its like F1 itself, with Schumacher and Senna, I used to watch every race, dragging myself out of bed at 4 in the morning when necessary.  Still do it now, but the passion isn't there anymore.

Alonso comes across as a spoilt brat, and I can't attach myself to Lewis Hamilton, he is the Tiger Woods of F1, talented but without a personality.

  10. For a while last year the F1 section was functioning as Y!A was intended to function...people had questions about the sport, other people had the answers. Now it's descended into the kind of free-for-all forum that you find in the football and cricket sections. F1 doesn't need tribalism, and neither does this section.

  11. I think this yahoo answers F1 section is now becoming an F1 Blogspot more than a meaningful question & answer portion, 'coz it is open to the public and anybody could say what they feel, free of charge.

In addition, we have no moderator incharge to filter questions which are to be posted and which are not.

Anyway, let's just make this F1 section informative by raising relevant questions and reply interesting answers. However, we can also break a glass sometimes, just for fun... =)

  12. some of the very people you mentioned are guilty of exactly what you complain about, defending Ron Denis in his scandal  while calling for the head of max Mosley for his, making claims about how Ferrari gets a free pass and blah blah blah,

i dint necessarily think its a bad thing that people have a passion for their sport, team, or driver,

yes i think they are beating a dead horse at this point on some of these issues, but to give you an example how can you comment on mclarens lack of performance this year with out acknowledging the mandated removal of any a Ferrari intellectual property from this years car? and then couple that with the fact than Hamilton smacked the wall and still came away with a victory at Monaco last week and any objective fan would have to say yes he is the real deal,

so though we are all tired of stepney gate, n**i s*x scandal, and Hamilton's skill Vs the silver spoon questions they are all still very relevant to today's unfolding drama

  13. LOL @ Julian

Its not a club, but I know exactly what jaffa means. A lot of people have been coming into this section and writing nothing but derogatory comments about either McLaren or Ferrari. Basically last year us regulars all made our views known about team/driver affiliations and didn't really insult each other. there have been a few points gamers and trolls, but also newcomers who have been brilliant and contributed to this section brilliantly. Unfortunately all the hatred and points gaming is spoiling things a bit.

Tim hasn't been on for ages either. I miss Tim, he gives loads of stars:)

  14. I go on yahoo answers on a daily basis and it is sad to see how this section has turned out. When I first came here, I was always looking forward to answering as many questions as I possibly can and asking some questions of my own. Nowadays, it's turning out to be a circus! I don't answer as much as I use to because most of the postings here are more of remarks rather than questions and when I do see questions they're pretty much the same questions over and over! How many times do people have to ask "Who will be world champion this year?". How many times do we have to see as like u said:fans bickering about Lewis,Ferrari,Mclaren (or McCheaters as some refer them). I'm starting to think we're behaving like NASCAR fans! Their fans love to bicker about other teams/drivers everyday, but this is F1! We're sooooo much better than that! We cannot stoop to their level here!

  15. I didnt know it was a blumin club!

Yes there are irritating qustions ( im probably guilty of a few) and there are others who copy answers or thumbs down ( DEFINATLEY not guilty) but its meant to be a bit of fun isnt it? I enjoy it and like to ask and answer as many questions as I can, I find this site a great escape from life.

  16. Its a shame it has descended into a slagfest between fans of the 'top two' and throwing around banal questions that are not relevant to anyone (Senna better than Schumacher for the 903857th time?)

It doesn't help that there isn't really much to talk about either, even after a race. Maybe its symptomatic of the sterile world of F1 these days.

I enjoy sharing (learning really!) the knowledge from Rosbif and Dan and its great to be, like Val and Top Gear, a fan first and foremost and a woman second! But some of the nonsense thrown out recently has been silly and infantile- all this focus on Hamilton's tax exile and Moseley's whipped bottom is just not on.

Let's get back to basics, Formula One Motor Sport.  All those that want to talk about the peripheral c**p should please go into the CART section. . .or the footie thuggery.

  17. Because people are asking about dirt tracks in Florida and the cost of Indy gas as if it were gas...what does it have to do with F1?

  18. I like to think that I try to give as good a comment or answer as Rosbif Val and the rest... Julian is always good and friendly too... I think its still good.. coz I tend to ignore the stupid questions and McLaren haters... coz they clearly don't know anything about the sport and are often F1 glory supporters...

  19. With the Hamilton influence we are getting children on this site ( and i use the term loosely) who probably didn't show an interest before he came to F1.

I am a bit like Rosbif and answer very rarely now.

The enjoyment has gone out of this site.

  20. I think the problem is that the sport is not very sporting at this point. I can't see too much appeal in discussing Hamilton's or Ferrari's latest runaway victory. There is plenty of action going on at the bottom of the points ladder, but it seems like all the talk is dominated by Ferrari/McLaren. It's a polarizing issue, and some folks seem like they still care about it. I'd personally prefer to discuss the s******g Adrian Sutil took at the hands of Raikkonen. Kimi sure didn't look like a World Champion at Monaco.

  21. Because Schumacher left...and Alonso is a f*g.

  22. Well, it's because people are starting to be fanatic and they fight when someone else criticizes their favourite team or driver. It's a pity actually.

I think now there seems to be more answerers here at this section, which is great, but hand in hand with this affluence, we are also dealing with a lot of people bickering. Taking sides, dissing other drivers and teams. Nothing wrong with expressing one's self, but there has to be a limit and some people don't seem to have one.

I used to come on this section every single day that I could, but lately I found that it wasn't as much fun anymore. I notice that some people who were just giving their own opinion or commenting casually on a driver or team got thumbs down. There were questions that were completely neutral, at which every single person who answered got a thumbs down.... who was the one doing that? Or are we supposed to think that different people gave the thumbs down and that it was a coincidence that each person got 1 thumbs down?

I miss what it used to be. I like the fact that now there are more people here, yes, for sure I do, but I also miss how it was back then.

  23. So in other words, you want to get rid of everybody except for 'Top Gear, Val, Rosbif, Gatorade, Blue Angel, and a few others' and of course yourself, because they are passionate about supporting their team, and because they want to express their views and opinions which they are perfectly entitled to?

And as for the term 'McCheaters,' do reject everything about spygate last year? Do you refuse to believe that McLaren did obtain information about Ferrari?

People are always going to give rival teams nicknames, its something that happens in every sport and it is also something that is unlikely to change whether you like it or not.

If its possible to define the word 'sport', I'm sure you would find the words competition, bickering and arguments in the definition.

  24. I only like the Pitt Girls can I come ?
