I guess the official reason is to keep the air clean, but I suspect there may be other reason on backstage, but I'm not sure as I'm a foreigner.

Your opinion?

  1. 1. To reduse the rate of Hydrocarbons in Air by redusing the amount of petroleum fuel consumption.

    2. To control the air pollution load.

    3. Cost of petrol also playing a fantastic role.

  2. In Mumbai and Delhi, the public road transport including rickshaws was converted from diesel to CNG. This was done under the directive of the Supreme Court of India judgment on a Public Interest Litigation by environmentalists. The objective was to lessen pollution levels in the metro cities of India. The conversion met severe resistance from the transport operators.

The CNG is supplied at subsidized rates by the government owned oil companies; Indraprastha Gas Limited in Delhi and Mahanagar Gas in Mumbai.

To me, there does not seem to be any hidden motives behind this welcome change.

  3. Its astronomically cheaper than petrol.  Thats why !!!  I also believe that CNG is available in plenty domestically and does not need to be imported.  However there is one drawback.  During the monsoons when some roads are flooded, the first vehicles to pack up are the CNG fitted ones.  Any taxi driver in Mumbai will attest to this.

  4. Natural gas is far cheaper than gasoline/petrol.  Plus it's in a wider abundance.  It also burns cleaner too.

  5. Indian government changed it into CNG because it is cheaper and gives out less pollution.
