Why has the Triple Crown fallen out of favour? Surely a horse who can win over a mile, 12 furlongs and a mile and three-quarters has to be something special.

    Yes, but the problem has been with breeders. There has become an obsession with speed over stamina which is why so many Derby winners have then been beaten later in their careers because owners and trainers want to get them to win a Group One race over ten furlongs.
