Who created the World Heritage Sites? Why are we allowing the U.N. to have control of any part of our country? Who's idea was it to allow this? Are U.N. Funds used to maintain these sites? And how do you, as an American, feel about this?

  1. you have to do a little research before showing the world how truly stupid you are

the listing means it is a place of importance on a world scale , that's all

  2. World Heritage Sites were determined by the United Nations to which the member countries adhered for the protection of the sites.

  3. We haven't turned anything over to the UN.  They are still under US Dept of the Interior control.

The World Heritage Fund gives about $4 million (with an M) each year to help countries in need of funds to preserve sites which have been designated "World Heritage Sites" by UNESCO.

I think it is a marvelous idea and would like to see a lot more money spent on it.
