Why not knight real heroes, such as firefighters, soldiers, police officers, doctors or nurses.

You know, people who actually risk thier own life to protect others.

  1. Because they have money to do good things for people without joy in their life. Firefighters, soldiers, police officers, doctors and nurses do good things because they get paid to. That doesn't mean that theyre selfish, it just means that celebrities usually have more money to give to charities.

  2. Because people are wanting to get rid of the Monarchy. They're afraid, and they need good publicity and endorsements.

  3. She wants street cred

  4. They do knight "real heroes."

In fact, just last year I think The Queen or whoever does that knighted several doctors from around the world.  There are a lot of medical practitioners who hold the rank of "knight" in fact.  You only see the celebrities because they can't take a dump without a tabloid taking a picture.

Oh no; the monarchy does knight the "real heroes," parlaiment, or anyone with a sense of ethics in the British government would raise a big stink if they didn't.

In fact, I think a lot of americans hold the rank of knight.  Not all knighting ceremonies are public; all you need is the monarch, the priest whoever the highest one is, and a sword, and with the words of the monarch touching your shoulder, you are granted the rank of "knight."

Also they do not give the rank of knight to just any celebrity; from my understanding, it is accomplished people who have reached the pinacle of their craft or helped to give Britain a good image.

  5. As all the answers above state, she does. However 'celebrities' don't get knighted or Honours just for 'being a celebrity', otherwise we would have Sir Peter Andre and Lady Jordan.(Gawd help us!)

These people are honoured for their, often unseen and unpublicised, work for charity as well as their "contribution to the Arts."

  6. Because she was instructed by the government to do so.

  7. I do remember watching a real life heroes show...where this one section talked about a British man vacationing in Florida and an alligator attacked the man.  It began death rolling and the man was about to lose an arm.  A bikini clad heroine ran to his aid, not caring about her possible loss of life and hitting and kicking the alligator in the throat and eyes.  The alligator let go, the man and the woman got back to shore.  She had saved his life.  The man was some muckity muck in parliment or somesuch and she ended up getting knighted with amedal and all that jazz.

I only remember this because the woman was American and shared how she had to be educated on how to greet and speak to the Queen, the what nots and what to's to do.  I was a kid and found it fascinating.  And that's when I realized that you don't have to be a man in a suit of armor in England to get a commodation from the Queen.

  8. they do it's just that you see the celebrities names more in the press and mags .................plus it can have the knock on effect of aiding some charities that are then supported by celebrities

  9. The Queen does honor doctors, soldiers, police officers, military officers, but they just don't garner as much PUBLICITY as a celebrity.

    http://www.royal.gov/uk/output/Page4874....

    starts coverage of the subject:

"Anybody in the UK can make a recommendation for a British national to receive an honour.

The aim is to ensure that the large numbers of people not in the public eye who give valuable service are recognised.

They could be charity volunteers, members of the emergency services or Armed Forces, industrial pioneers or specialists in various professions.

While The Queen is 'fountain of honour' in the United Kingdom, honours are actually awarded on the advice of the Cabinet Office.

For this reason, honours nominations are handled not by Buckingham Palace but by the Ceremonial Secretariat, part of the Cabinet Office.

In order to nominate someone, you should obtain a copy of the nominations form and read the guidance notes."

Ambulance driver William Killminster is pictured with an honor for his work.

On the page specifically dedicated to knighthoods it states,"Recipients today range from actors to scientists, and from school head teachers to industrialists." Unfortunately, the media focuses on the celebrities and not the local heroes. Honours lists are available at http://www.honours.gov/uk/lists.aspx

  10. I fully agree with you.

It's all about the tax, they contribute a lot on tax money to stay in UK(celebrities).

Still (lol) Anthony Hopkins moved after his Knighthood to USA, so away the tax for him and he enjoy his Sir ship in the USA.

  11. I stopped caring about knighthood when Elton John was knighted......he/she/it(?) is not my idea of a roll model for our young.
