Why has there been so much press dedicated to VP picks this week?

Seems like all I see in the news this week is talk of VP picks, meanwhile the economy is on the dumper, we are engaged in a war on terror with two active fronts, and it looks like the activity in Georgia threatens to slide us into WW III.

Yet the headlines focus on a job with no real authority.

Because Obama is sinking like a rock and the lapdog press needed to change the subject.

To sell newspapers and obtaining advertising. It's a game, like beauty contests or sports, but to me much more serious, of course
