I think if all the center medium between the four lane hwys would be a good place to put it since the goverment already has the rightaway,We could have departure exits with a smaller rail system or buses to transport to various areas.I know it would cost a big bundle but i think by running it off diesel electric it would be worthwhile. What are your thoughts?

  1. because politicians are lazy and selfish

welcome to the human race, where no one gives a s**t

    next stop... world chaos

  2. It's expensive, no one wants to pay extra taxes, and Americans love their cars too much.

  3. In 1929, the allmighty general motors corp. bought and burnt down - literally - public transportation system in Chicago. They are paying huge money along with oil co's to make sure there is no meaningful mass transit in the US. So much for what's good for gm....

  4. Americans don't want trains, we like our cars. Rail - light rail works in Europe but it WILL NOT work here and urban planners should quit shoving it down peoples throats. It's a waste of money, no one uses it. Europe for the most part does not have the sprawling suburbs we have here. They have cities surrounded by farms. It makes sense there. That and gas is 5-6 dollars a gallon. If trains worked private entrepreneurs would be doing it. But the government can confiscate our money under the auspice of taxes and do this stupid, stupid stuff like build light rail. Forget about it!

  5. This has actually already happened in some places.  For example, Metrolink (in Southern California) basically runs along the freeways.

  6. When gas becomes as expensive as it is in a lot of the European countries the Secretary of Transportation will begin to look seriously at expanding mass transit.  Right now though people complain about the cost of gas, I'm not so sure this would be a huge draw with people that don't live in highly populated cities that have rail, subways, etc.
