Why hasn't the FAA required hushkits and underwing markings for private planes, yet?

Living next to a scenic national park, I can attest we're starting to have issues with noise and elevations.

  1. I think the forces of the free market work better than FAA regulations. Aircraft and engine companies are working hard to make their products quieter. Noisy jets are bad business.


  2. How much government regulation do you want. I'll wager it doesn't bother you to get on an airline and fly over some other poor saps house does it?

  3. I lived next to an airport for 2 years and it didnt bother me in the slightest bit, private planes arent exactly loud.

    They already have to maintain at least 2000ft elevation above the ground, its stated on all VFR aviation sectional maps.

    If you dont want to deal with the noise then move, you wouldnt move next to a highway and then complain about cars would you?

  4. Because the noise generated by small general aviation is produced by the prop, not the engine, and since the decibil is only around the mid 70 to low 80's , it is not considered harmful. Hush kits were for turbojet engines, that add air into the exhause to quiet them down, but only required on aircraft over a certain gross weight, thats why lear jets (lr24, lr25's) are not required to have them.
