Why have France got a point in the Rugby World Cup?

France get whupped by Argentina & still get awarded a point?

You get 4 points for winning, 2 for a draw, 1 point for scoring 4 or more tries and 1 point if you lose by 7 points or less.

Argentina 17-12 France.  Only lost by 5 points so they get a bonus.  If that last kick for Argentina went over, they would have missed out because they would have lost by 8.

The rule was introduced to encourage teams to keep up their efforts until the very end AND to reduce the incidence of tied positions in the pool tables
