In today's criminal justice system, America's can get as much justice as they can afford. Lets face it, you think OJ would have beat the rap with Public Defenders, innocence requires dollars not proof. Prosecutors dictate to judges thanks to (lawyer/politicians) making laws giving them extraordinary powers (minimum mandatory sentancing). And juries forced to give up their wages to be bored to death in a court only want to hurry up and get back to work to pay their bills and inflated mortgages .

Unless we put in place a paid professional jury system, whereas juries serve at the will of the court, are paid a salary through tax dollars but not the court which removes any possible obligation to serve their master so to speak. Juries therefore have a wider latitute to use common sense and the law rather than emotion to dispense justice.

With prison populations exploding with over 73 percent of non-violent white collor crime.

  1. Nice rant.

    Now go away

  2. What was the question?

  3. The whole reason for the jury is to be the trier of fact, they decide what to believe and what not to believe.  Public defenders have the same opportunities as prosecutors to submit evidence and deliver their argument.  The judge is the trier of law and decides which laws are applicable in a case and informs the jury of the law.  Really, the jury has the most important role because they have to piece everything together.  Serving jury duty is our civic duty as Americans.

  4. It is impossible to respond to this question because it is peppered with inaccuracies. In fact, it is based on a faulty premise and supported with flawed logic.

Our system, while flawed, works a vast majority of the time. You might not agree with the outcome all of the time, but it is effective in many ways. By definition a jury cannot be what you describe. Perhaps you perfer a panel of judges, as is present on various levels of our system?

Based on your arguments, we should stick with what we have. Thanks for clearing that up.

  5. nothing is perfect.

and a lot of our politicians are terrible (in my belief)  which just make the problems worse.

but what can you do? not a whole lot.

  6. What are you talking about?

The odds of not going to prison after being charged with a crime (whether guilty or not) is directly proportional to the level of you bank account.
