Why have convictions for Rape in the UK dropped so much?

According to recent article:

"The rape conviction rate in Britain has plummeted from 33% in the 70s to just 5.7% today, and that the 14,000 rapes reported each year are thought to be the tip of the iceberg - Solicitor General, Vera Baird, suggested that only 10%-20% of all cases are brought to the attention of the authorities."

Why do you think this is?

  1. fear of the allegations being false, it is better for women's groups to have a low conviction rate than a high false allegation rate.

  2. My understanding is that it's because the authorities are doing a much better job of weeding out the false reports.

  3. I suspect that the lower classes in Britain have been replaced by immigrants and cultures where rape is a huge stigma. It's a shame that feminists have an unofficial 'hands-off' policy when it comes to muslim cultures.

  4. because we live in a culture that still stigmatizes rape as shameful and still think women are liars (since at least the 1700s).

    here is an article -

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con...

a woman says, do they think 95% of women lie about rape?

(answer is yes....community perception is that women lie....many - on this forum - hammer the message home that women are vindictive liars -- fathers rights groups also hammer the message home)

note too that the rape of a 10 year old girl got 2 years sentence. and when the community protested, it was stretched to a whole whopping 4 years.

i have seen MANY articles where they quote the judge as saying the defendent was a "good guy" - an unbelievable amount - in regard to cases of DV and rape.

women are still not receiving justice in the justice system.

of course, i'm going to be called a liar for saying that, but the research is there.  (it's the culture that does not accept it b/c misogynist messages still get more clout and media attention than facts and research)
