Im 14 years old and recently (about 5 months ago) been diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I take lexepro 7.5 mg and Klonopin 2.5 tablets before i go to bed. Everything went uphill from about 4 months ago and everything is still great, but for the past month every single night i would have a bad dream. They would usually be about my problems in real life like friends and school but they wont go away and every dream is different. can someone tell me if its my medication or if im getting depressed again or anything.....please!!! Sleeping is not enjoyable for me anymore

  1. Well medication can cause negative side effects in a great variety of ways, including dreaming and/or hallucinations.

But so can diet, alcohol, brain disorders, brain trauma, psychiatric issues, or really negative life experiences that have not been resolved (such as rape, abuse of any kind, death of a loved one, near death experiences (not in terms of the cuckoo illogical Dr Phil or Maury show kind, but lets say a car accident or something)  and so on down the list).

I don't know you personally, so i cannot say what is causing the nightmares, but what i can suggest is that you go to your GP (doctor or whomever prescribed the medication) and let them know what's going on. It could be that your body cannot handle the dosage, or even the type of medication in general and your nightmares are simply a negative side-effect to it and there may eventually develop other side-effects with it.

Seriously, have a chat with your doctor. Maybe this medication isn't what's working best for you right now. See if he/she can prescribe something else that will not effect you so harshly if that is the case.

  2. Simple answer, yes.

Depression medications always carry a warning about them affecting your dreams.

Your doctor NEEDS to know about these side effects.
